GUIDED TOUR

 

A journey into the heart of Huron traditions, past and present. Visitors are welcomed all year long by a guide dressed in a Huron traditional costume. From May to October between 9h to 5h a welcoming dance is performed at the beginning of the guided tour.

The guided tour is offered all year long come snow, rain or shine. All exhibits are covered in case of rain and can accommodate an entire group. The guided tour is offered in French, English and Spanish.

NATIVE SHOW

 

The sacred dances and ceremonies were used to be executed to thank the creator for the good harvest of wild fruits and corn during fall. The Huron-Wendat were also doing those dances during different holidays and they were held between the first and the thirteenth moon. At the end of the show, the visitors are invited to participate to a dance that is called: the friendship dance. That dance was used to be executed to fraternize and to strengthen the links between the different nations. Ours visitors will leave the site with an unforgettable memory.

CANOE OR RABASKA RIDE

 

A guide accompanies the visitors on a canoe or rabaska ride on the KABIR KOUBA river. The quay of arrival is located on the Traditional Huron Site. The guide will tell the visitors the legend of the big snake KABIR KOUBA.

SNOWSHOES RIDE IN THE FOREST

 

With a tour guide wearing traditional costume

The activity is usually realized during daytime except for reservation of 20 people or more, we can do the ride during the evening. A tour guide accompany the visitors with snowshoes in the forest adjacent the Huron traditional site for a ride.

TALES AND LEGENDS

 

According to ancient believes the people who had knowledge had to transmit it to the younger generations within the Nation. This tradition permitted the legends to survive throughout time.

Let our story teller share with you the legends of the Creation of the World, the Monstrous Bear, the Discovery of Fire and the Gift from the Great Spirit.

An Indian guide welcomes the visitors at the quay in order to accompagny them in the forest.

HURON GAMES

 

« PROTECT YOUR RESERVES » GAME
We place in front of a blindfolded player three objects. He/she must protect them from another player who was designated to steal them from him/her. The blindfolded player is not allowed to touch the objects. He/she must keep his/her hands above them.

« ROPE GAME »
This game has for objective to develop the player’s initiative. We blindfold them and coil them up with a rope. They must get out of this intertwining. The ones with the most initiative will stand out by taking control of the situation. The game ends when the entire group is free from the rope.

« THE CRAB RACE »
Visitors are invited to participate in a very peculiar relay as they have to race side ways, like a crab. This game aims at developing physical endurance. It is offered to children as well as adults.

« RALLY SATÉCHAQUEY »
Players in this game must be very attentive because the guide provides them with informations necessary during the rally.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

 

These activities are interesting for kids as much as for adults.

MEDICINE WHEEL
Made of deer leather and goose and pheasant feathers, the medicine wheel is used to chase away illness. The cross represents the four cardinal points and intends to protect each and every home around the world. The caribou bones are symbol of luck.

HANDICRAFT NECKLACE
Our young visitors enter into the heart of Native American roots by learning how to create and make a necklace out of traditional pearls. In the past, this necklace as all the other jewellery were the only goods which the Huron could posses. The rest was communal property.

ARCHERY

 

Visitors attend a brief presentation on how to use a hunting bow and arrows. They are then invited to put their technique into practice. We offer each visitor the opportunity to exercise their aim on a target shaped into a life size deer. The ones who successfully hit the heart of the deer are rewarded with a gift.

SHAMANIQUE QUEST

In our society, the shaman owned different powers: control the elements of the nature, predict the future, find back lost objects, heal and interpret the dreams.

During the quest, you will have to develop these capacities by passing some tests.

CONFERENCE AND ALLIANCE CONCERNING THE HURONS

 

Conference on actuality subjects concerning the Hurons
The native status, the social and politic organisation, taxes and incomes the employment, the education and health are subjects that we talk about.

Alliance with the Hurons concerning the respect of the environment
An agreement concerning the respect of the environment is written on a piece of leather and realised in between the two parts. Each participant and the attending Huron of the meeting have to sign the agreement and respect it afterward. To seal the alliance, two representants of the group are invited to smoke the peace pipe with the Huron-Wendat.
